In the early 90s, Gurgaon was still a small town trying to stretch itself. Its lifelines? Just two narrow roads.
The Delhi–Jaipur Highway (NH-8), forever choked with trucks and traffic.
The Old Delhi Road, winding through Kapashera and Dundahera.
And a forgotten stretch — Sohna Road. Barely two lanes, bumpy, no dividers. More village track than city corridor.
Back then, travel meant compromise.
Going to Delhi? Either NH-8 or Old Delhi Road.
Heading to Jaipur? Again, only NH-8.
Sohna Road? Good for tractors, not cars.
Gurgaon was alive, yes — but fragile, connected by just a couple of shaky exits.
Then came a turning point: MG Road.
What began as a sleepy connector to Mehrauli suddenly became Gurgaon’s first modern spine.
At first, it was just another route.
But soon neon lights, multiplexes, and malls transformed it into the city’s heartbeat.
For Delhiites, MG Road was the gateway to a new Gurgaon.
For locals, it was the city’s first confident step into modernity
The 2000s brought another stretch — Golf Course Road.
In the beginning, it stumbled. Red lights every 500 meters, constant jams.
But slowly, it grew taller.
Underpasses, an elevated corridor, the Rapid Metro.
One day you woke up, and it wasn’t chaos anymore. It was NCR’s smoothest, most glamorous drive.
Then Gurgaon pushed further with Golf Course Extension Road.
And quietly, the SPR and CPR stitched together neighbourhoods like veins — preparing the ground for future growth.
And then came the bold leap: the expressways.
Dwarka Expressway gave Gurgaon a new, powerful gateway into Delhi.
Sohna Road matured into a major corridor, linking straight to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.
Loops and extensions tied everything back to NH-8.
Today, Gurgaon is no longer a town with two exits.
It’s a full-grown web of connectivity:
Multiple doors into Delhi.
Two ways to reach Jaipur.
Even a smooth start for the long journey to Mumbai.
From dusty tracks to a network of expressways, Gurgaon’s roads aren’t just asphalt — they are its biography.
Each new road was a growth spurt. Each expressway, a milestone.
The city we drive through today didn’t arrive overnight.
It grew, it stumbled, it paused — and then it sprinted ahead.
